after canva’s flooded our social media content and other materials with repeating same boring and meaningless design templates, now AI has become the new tool for it. not only are these creative shortcuts destroying jobs of the creative industry, but artificial intelligence is also causing huge extra energy demand in times of a climate crisis and a dragging energy transition to phase out fossil fuels, and massive water waste.
especially here in ireland data centres are becoming a problem: as they are either connected to the public grid, which creates a competition of energy costs and people struggling with paying energy bills, or having their own power plant, which mostly is powered with natural gas, causing greenhouse gas emissions.
luckily every trend is followed by a countertrend and more and more people in the climate justice bubble are moving away from using AI, at least as default. that’s why i’d like to inspire and invite you to join the movement and make not only our planet, but also our content great again.
